Film Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Hot on the heels of the successful David Cronenberg series, the Steve Allen Theater offers Bride of Frankenstein, which arrives as the closing film in a nine-week Mystery Movies series. Made in 1935, the film picks up where Frankenstein (1931) left off, again starring Boris Karloff as the stitched-up monster. This time, the amalgam wants a mate, so Dr. Frankenstein reanimates some more tissue into a certain skunk-haired lady-friend, played by the enchanting Elsa Lanchester. Things don't go according to plan, of course, though the quasi-brain-dead monster does evolve — he learns to speak, and how to enjoy the finer things of undead life.
