Music: Soul/R&B Meshell Ndegeocello

Touring in support of her eighth album (brilliantly titled The World Has Made Me the Man of My Dreams), neo-soul mama Meshell Ndegeocello arrives at Key Club tonight for a gig showcasing her ever-evolving blend of funk, jazz, hip-hop, and blues. The singer/songwriter/bassist's gradual shift to jazz-infused arrangements recalls the late-career sensibilities of Joni Mitchell. The World's lyrics cover familiar thematic territory, skewering gender, race, religion, and sexual politics. But underneath, there's a new range of sounds. Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and jazz legend Pat Metheny guest on the album.
