Writing a rock opera may not be everyone's first impulse after finishing Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1850 novel, The Scarlet Letter, but apparently it was Mark Governor's. If you think about it, the heavy-handed indictment of Puritan society contains all the key ingredients for a rollicking, emotionally charged rock show: sex, scandal, secrets, lies, lust, revenge, public humiliation, and priest costumes. Each performance of shAme is followed by a different live-band or DJ set. Of special note is closing night, with punk-rock riot the Fuxedos, whose lead singer, Danny Shorago, stars in the musical.
