New Image Art's latest group exhibition packs a powerhouse list of participants. Vets of the gallery — including indie-rock man-of-the-moment Devendra Banhart, Sean Cassidy, Nico Dios, Antti Laitinen, and Tauba Auerbach (plus many more) — contribute works in the urban-romantic DIY aesthetic that New Image helped make famous. The gallery's smaller Project Room shows work by another musician-slash-artist, Jim Brown, whose Fake Indian installation examines cultural identity with a raw, unflinching frankness and dark humor.
