The Downtown Gallery District gets bigger all the time, with new art spaces popping up at an alarming rate. This month's installment of the neighborhood art walk welcomes several new galleries and the Japanese American National Museum into its ranks. The JANM's contribution also includes music, as its 1st & Central concert series kicks off at 6:30pm with its wildly popular uke festival. Other newbies include the mostly photography-based Todd/Browning Gallery and film-production-oriented space Phyllis Stein Art. Meanwhile, the stalwart MoCA stays open late, offering a locals-friendly gathering with a DJ set from Milan Records chief Jean-Christophe Chamboredon and free late-night admission, and installation artist Launa Bacon transforms the decrepit elegance of the Continental Building into a multimedia gallery for the group show
Where the Girls Are.
