Calling themselves the "Satanic Everly Brothers," the Gutter Twins' Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli are both longstanding alt-rock heroes. (Lanegan fronted the Screaming Trees while Dulli was part of the perennially underappreciated Afghan Whigs.) Named after a weeklong pagan festival, their debut album, Saturnalia, revels in dark feedback loops and growling vocals, with dirges that reinvigorate the grunge of yesteryear. Local favorites Great Northern start the evening with decidedly less evil, but no less atmospheric dream pop. Piano balladeer and general LA fave Ed Harcourt kicks off the evening with a few upbeat tunes.
