Performing Arts: Spoken Word Reprise Theatre Company presents Free Style

Urban LA youths get their close-up with Free Style, a one-night-only event that partners 15 high-school students with some of Broadway and pop music's biggest guns. Hosted by Malcolm-Jamal Warner and directed by Matt Gould (last year's Jonathan Larsen Award winner), the show features music composed by Stephen Bray (who co-wrote Madonna's "Into the Groove"), Desmond Child, and pop wunderscribe Lauren Christy, with lyrics by the students themselves. After being plucked from their LA classrooms and schooled in lyric writing, the teens take to the stage to showcase the results; Free Style is an early version of a theatrical piece to be premiered later this year.
