Music Denyce Graves performs Bizet's Carmen

Dubbed "immoral" by critics upon its 1875 debut (a surefire marketing strategy), Georges Bizet's Carmen is now an oft-staged operatic staple, informing numerous modern works, from Matthew Bourne's The Car Man to Beyonce's Carmen: A Hip-Hopera. Set in the sultry locale of Seville, Spain, Carmen tells the tale of a gregarious gypsy who becomes consumed by love and lust, with disastrous results. Upping tonight's drama even more is mezzo-soprano great Denyce Graves, who reprises her signature role as the femme fatale.
