While the Zombies' slick harmonies and friendly la-la-las often fit the mold of fellow British invasion acts like the Beatles and the Kinks, the group was hardly candy-coated: it took its arrangements a step further, immersing bitter organ and bass notes in dark keys. Having gained notoriety only after disbanding in 1967, the Zombies may now be more famous for not being famous, especially during their youthful heyday. Tonight, core members Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent return to perform one of many shows they never got around to in their '60s heyday, offering refreshing pop tunes as unsullied as the day they were written.
