If you think the twinkling lights of the Santa Monica Pier are already a sight to behold, the area's metamorphosis for Glow may be a brain-melter. Sponsored by the City of Santa Monica in partnership with several arts groups — including KCRW and dublab in association with SASSAS, whose DJs provide the soundtrack — the free event transforms the Santa Monica beach, pier, and Palisades Park with more than 20 site-specific installations and performances by local artists. This nighttime happening is named after another nocturnal ritual — the yearly running of the grunion fish, which wash up on the beach for several nights a year and create a temporary iridescence in the area.
