Gloves
An overstuffed white glove might bring to mind images of a Mickey Mouse cartoon, but for artist and curator Cecelia Kane, it stands for something much more troubling — the tragedy of the Iraq War. In Hand to Hand: Witnessing the War, Kane and her fellow artists paint actual news headlines pertaining to the war onto gloves, along with artistic interpretations of the events described. For the traveling exhibit, artists also integrate photography, sculpture, video, animation, glass, paper, bead work, printmaking, and even puppetry into their takes on the white glove and the conflict abroad. – Jessica Jardine
