Music: Rock/Pop Retribution Gospel Choir w/ the Weather Underground

As the first wave of slowcore groups hit pay dirt with reunions and deluxe reissues, it's worth noting that Low is one of the few who never really went away. After 15 years together, the Minnesota trio's minimal, emotionally bruised music remains awesomely consistent. Low turned up the volume for their last couple of albums, but frontman Alan Sparhawk really chases his rock muse with the Retribution Gospel Choir, a side project he originally formed in 2005 with Red House Painter Mark Kozelek. Kozelek has since left, but Sparhawk's touring trio soldiers on, storming through the singer/guitarist's Neil Young-influenced tunes with fire and finesse.
