Silent-film director F.W. Murnau's Sunrise is often cited on all-time best-of lists, and for good reason. The story of a wishy-washy farmer whose life is hijacked by a villainous femme fatale is brought to life through the same German-expressionist visual techniques that animated Murnau's other classic Nosferatu. Cinefamily gives Sunrise a modern facelift at the Silent Movie Theater, with live musical accompaniment by Austin-based instrumental band My Education. The group's original score lends the macabre film an emotional gravitas that suits its time-tested tale of heartbreak, murder, and mystery.
