For more than ten years, the Grammy-nominated Imani Winds have blended styles from Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the US to create a wholly unique take on the traditional wind-quintet sound. As part of the Ford Amphitheatre's Chamber Music Under the Stars series, the group performs Afro Blue, a piece by Cuban composer Mongo Santamaria. The New York-based fivesome has appeared on NPR and the BBC's The World Today, and was called "the future of the once-quaint notion of the wind quintet" by the Washington Post. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic to the Ford and dine alfresco before the show begins.
