The 29th Annual Long Beach Blues Festival may not be held in the down-home southern countryside, but two outstanding headliners more than make up for the lack of rootsy location. On Saturday, music legend — and inventor of the duck walk — Chuck Berry brings his crunchy guitar sound to the stage; his singles "Johnny B. Goode" and "Maybellene" are colossal enough to instill fear in songwriters who dare to dabble in classic rock 'n roll imagery. Two-time Grammy winner Taj Mahal takes over on Sunday with his alternative flatpicking, mixing the blues with reggae, jazz, and gospel. John Mayall, Booker T. Jones, and Charlie Musselwhite also perform.
