Drawing on her suburban So-Cal roots, Kelly Lynn Jones depicts modern America's decay in sparse, childlike paintings. Using house paint and pencil, the artist renders melancholy landscapes, useless buildings, and shoddy construction sites in muted tones. The structures, floating in negative space, evoke suburban isolation and the futility of searching for human contact in the built environment. Her desolate paintings expertly juxtapose our nation's aspirations of camaraderie with the realities of loneliness, overpopulation, and poverty.
