For the second installment of its lively Sculpture series, Culver City gallery Western Projects pushes the 3-D envelope with a collection of works by Michael Dee, Michael Reafsnyder, Heimir Björgúlfsson, and Wayne White, as well as a collaborative effort between Reafsnyder and renowned ceramicist David Kiddie. The crew's diversity is its best asset. Dee's star sculptures composed of melted and reassembled plastic cups hint at an ugly, sumptuous decadence, and Björgúlfsson's nature-inspired, found-object assemblages similarly confound ideas of the figurative and abstract while challenging traditional art-making materials.
