Santa Monica Museum of Art says…

The Santa Monica Museum of Art hosts LA artist Martin Kersels' first retrospective, Heavyweight Champion, drawing from 13 years of his multimedia work. Informed by the principles of slapstick humor, Kersels' pieces often pit himself and others against forces of nature such as gravity. But as works like Falling demonstrate to comedic effect, it's a thrown fight. At tonight's opening, the museum provides an art workshop for attendees while Puttanesca perform songs from atop the artist's precarious sculpture, Rickety. If all this is making you a tad woozy, stumble over to the museum's Project Rooms I & II to view slightly more steady paintings and drawings by Henry Taylor and Bruce Pollock.
