Seminal Work features a selection of pieces from the much-lauded Raymond Pettibon, all completed between 1978 and 1988. Keeping true to the chameleon-like artist, the subject matter on display ranges widely, spanning politics, hippie culture, and religion. The highlights are Pettibon's India-ink drawings, many of which show a strong comic-book influence. They're the result of an unusual life path: after a short stint as a high-school math teacher, he decided to dedicate himself to his more creative side. He soon became involved in the Los Angeles punk scene, and when his brother founded an aspiring rock band called Black Flag, Pettibon designed its black-and-white logo. The rest is art-world history.
