John Bock's unpredictable performances may seem like exercises in artistic capriciousness, but his loud costumes and absurd statements conceal his skill as a social and political commentator. Bock is best known for his "happening"-style shows, which combine multimedia elements and live audience participation. This time around, REDCAT has co-commissioned Bock's newest work, a feature-length film shot in Southern California, and a three-dimensional sculpture in the gallery. A genuine artistic renegade with a reputation for irreverence, Bock is no stranger to REDCAT's tradition of unconventional thought and interdisciplinary creativity.
