Photographer and environmentalist Robert Glenn Ketchum makes landscape images, but this isn't Ansel Adams we're talking about here. The 38-year-old UCLA graduate eschews the somber stateliness of black and white for brilliant color prints that abstract the earth as much as they define it. Although he started his career as an undergrad shooting rock bands like the Doors and Cream, Ketchum's heart belongs to nature. Taking aim from the air, the planet's crust, and everywhere in between, Ketchum creates pictures of places so beautiful they could be mistaken for paradise. His work isn't just about visual appeal, though; his most powerful images have played influential roles in eco-friendly legislation.
