Note:
Curator-led tours, artist workshops, and panel discussions take place throughout the exhibition's run.
The 17 young and emerging artists included in this ambitious group show follow diverse strategies in making work, but the organizing principle is one of absence, or at least reduction. For example, Chris Natrop takes the childhood craft of the paper cutout and uses it to engineer impossibly complex, large-scale landscapes, and Eva Struble's thickly painted vistas combine a visceral impasto technique with luminous, empty color fields. A related installation by Rebecca Niederlander in the gallery's street-facing windows features a mass of office supplies arranged in a glorious monument to creative procrastination, complete with Post-it Note origami and paper-clip skyscrapers.
