Three distinct musical personalities make up the Bad Plus. Drummer David King drives syncopated, rough-around-the-edges rhythms, while Ethan Iverson's piano provides a link to jazz, layering simple, bassy chords below slurred solos and accents. Rounding out the trio is bassist Reid Anderson, who composes tunes that highlight modal harmonies. Live, the piano's overtones bounce mysteriously around the hall as King's drumset, positioned front and center, spotlights the most captivating performer on the stage.
