LA painter Sarah Cromarty has had a big year already; she gained recognition through several group shows and a bit of favorable press. She continues her streak with her first-ever solo exhibition, which takes place this month at Circus Gallery. Cromarty's work unravels the complexities of soured romances by reveling in the grimacing embrace of kitsch — one example is her penchant for gluing glitter to canvases. Her paintings are often semi-autobiographical and shaped by multiple influences, both positive (art-historical figures) and negative (creepy ex-boyfriends).
