Culver City's latest spot of interest is Ugo Wine Bar, a cozy wine bar with the usual bistro couches and charcuterie selection — with one key difference. Ugo is a "self-sommelier" establishment, with a pre-pay system involving a Kinko's-style plastic card, allowing you to sample a deep wine cellar one ounce at a time. (It's particularly helpful if you'd rather gamble $20 on an unfamiliar/famous vintage than, say, $500.) The unconventional system is a great conversation piece as enthusiasts and neophytes join forces in a low-intensity scavenger hunt for great moments in oenology.
