Collaborative painters Daryoush Asgar and Elisabeth Gabriel make no attempt at seamlessness or illusion. The scars of their clashing styles is but one source of the effervescent visual cacophony that unfurls in their large-scale canvases. Promiscuous in their influences, their lavish scenes are more like rumbles than compositions. Protagonists, such as they are, navigate whirly worlds of slippery perspective and interchangeable time frames. The particular magic of Asgar/Gabriel lies in their masterful instincts for sorting it all out into sweeping scenes of affecting beauty.
