In an inspired mashup of childhood comfort, adult-onset ADHD, and modern-art history, Brooklyn-based painter Derek Buckner delivers luminous, refined oil paintings of giant piles of marshmallows. The artist's in-studio Candyland is infused with the bristling, atmospheric light and spatial nuances previously lavished on urban landscapes and architectural structures. Buckner melds pop-art sass with a nostalgic ache and the fog of unhealthy obsession in a series of paintings as odd and tempting as their subjects.
