Israeli-born, LA-based artist Yuval Pudik executes remarkable graphite drawings on paper that defy the laws of anatomy, narrative, romance, and even composition. With an impossibly fine hand, Pudik depicts a series of characters — hybrid affairs comprising arms, legs, leather boots, animal parts, imperial thrones, Victorian vaudeville costumes, feathers, and flora. The surrealism of their physiques, and the balancing acts, flirtations, rehearsals for implied performances, and other curious activities in which they engage, is heightened by the artist's crisp, confident draftsmanship — to a degree so soaked in torturous beauty that it borders on the grotesque.
