Akihiro Kitamura is an actor/director with twin obsessions — sexuality and life in Los Angeles — that translate with unctuous ease to the big screen. In a revolving schedule that includes non-naked "air sex" competitions at all 9:30pm screenings, the newly christened Downtown Independent hosts two of Kitamura's recent films: I'll Be There With You, a social case study about bizarre human mating rituals, and Porno, a lighter-hearted romp about the freaky pageant that attends chasing the Hollywood dream.
