Rick Prelinger has saved over 60,000 advertising, classroom, industrial, and amateur films from obscurity, methodically rescuing valuable filmstrips from the trash cans of schools and libraries nationwide. His collection has since been acquired by the Library of Congress and made available online, providing valuable insight into the social, moral, and economic values of America's past. This evening, the ephemeral-film savior appears in person at the Silent Movie Theatre to discuss the contributions of Jamison "Jam" Handy — who produced over one-tenth of the strips in Prelinger's collection. The San Francisco-based archive-film maven follows his talk with a screening of some of Handy's nearly lost treasures.
