Gay Beast's ecstatic rockers are more intricate and technically difficult than they seem. Some of their songs straddle the line between rock and noise, but the shrill feedback is always calculated, and the fuzzed-out bass, synced up with frantic drums, provides a constant, highly syncopated backbeat. That's the beauty of the endeavor: the instruments might be distorted and loud, but it's never so out of control that the band's members can't skillfully hear and riff off each other's experiments. They hit town tonight on a packed bill, playing alongside Moment Trigger, Tleilaxu Music Machine, Kawaiietly Please, and French Quarter.
