One can easily imagine that this comedy (with music) about the midlife urge to glorify and recapture the lost promise of youth is autobiographical, but that would be to miss the poised comic timing of the book and era-invoking stylishness of the score. Part fairy tale, part cautionary tale, and all San Fernando Valley, That Perfect Moment is a refreshingly uncynical love letter to half-realized dreams.
