"Pop colors" are the theme in curator Yasmine Mohseni's The Pop of Colors at Chinatown's POVevolving. Bright, slightly disconcerting color scripts from recent history have become relics, and their sheen has muted — and mutated — into new visual compositions as exemplified by these six artists. "The use of lime greens, bright yellows, and electric blues has become common, even banal," says Mohseni. "Pop colors can be seen all around us from mundane advertising to high fashion." The show aims to once again nurture the use of color in art, or to re-imagine its purpose, via an engaging collection of paintings, multimedia, sculpture, and installations. – Tanja M. Laden
