Alejandro Gehry is back with another fresh and frisky series of paintings that combine a nostalgia for the blazing palette and razor-sharp haircuts of the '80s, with a playful love of sex and light-and-space-influenced patterns. The nearly neon green, crimson, and purple is a bit shocking at first encounter, but give the eyes time to adjust to the bright flood: the colors warm up and become suffused, the patterns and strong lines emerge to the fore, while the close-up kisses retreat into the abstract; it's rather magical. And don't miss the handful of surprising drawings on paper, rough and visceral works that show the fineness of the artist's hand through a more sublime sensuality in the absence of fuchsia shock.
