Jane Glassman's years of work in the art world have seen her not only getting to know a variety of its players — artists, curators, dealers, critics, collectors, administrators — but also acting in those roles herself. She lends this uniquely multifaceted perspective to her organizing of Royal/T's sprawling, complex, orchestral, and ultimately delightful exhibition, In Bed Together. Glassman invited 50 arts professionals from across the spectrum to choose one artist each for inclusion in the show, and her gamble paid off. What was always intended as a symbolic examination of the interdependencies of the art world also forms a coherent and comprehensive survey of work being made in LA by brand-name and brand-new voices — and in a panoply of media, from the performative to the painted, printed, architectural, and conceptual.
