When someone refers to an "artist's book," most people think about the popular hybrid genre, wherein visual artists, alone or in collaboration, make original books instead of traditionally formatted, singular works of art. But for one night only, for the benefit of the programs at community arts organization Side Street Projects, that's not what it means at all. At Bookmeat, aside from the music, dancing, and partying with a purpose, the main event is a sale of books that once belonged to the artists, writers, and curators themselves. Uprooted from their erudite shelves, signed, and inscribed with messages from their former owners, these artist's books are ready to start their new lives, as your books.
