George Frideric Handel's obscure 17th century Baroque opera Tamerlano continues the left-of-center pickings from LA Opera; this one's an Italian love triangle that travels to darker-than-dark Prussia, circa 1402. In the three-act opera, Plácido Domingo plays Turkish sultan Bajazet, a proud father trying to veto his daughter's marriage to the tyrannical Tamerlano. Expect a diva turn from Domingo, who sings three of the opera's half-dozen classic arias.
