Works by regional and national artists come together at the Laguna Art Museum's Collecting California, which reflects the long history of creativity ignited by the Golden State. Going back as far as 1941, the Laguna Art Museum's permanent collection has been a refreshingly accessible alternative to the high profile art of the OC's ambitious neighbors to the north; and in Collecting California, it's nice to know that "California art" can mean more than David Hockney or coastal landscapes. From the museum's 3000-plus holdings — representing 150 years' worth of rare art — the curators cull an eclectic group which is as quirky, mysterious, and delightful as the state itself.
