La Luz hosts tonight's reading and book signing for the new volume of words by Chris Desjardins, better known as Chris D., a musician (The Flesh Eaters) and producer (The Gun Club). But as the new book's proliferation of short stories, poems, salient snippets, emotionally fraught dreams and memories, and, of course, song lyrics demonstrates, the man had much more to say than any album could contain. As literary anti-icon Lydia Lunch observes in her afterword to the book, "Chris D. presents in this volume such an immense encapsulation of his life's work that it reads as literary autopsy of a man not yet dead but of one who has died a thousand times and somehow miraculously between crucifixions used pen as shovel to prevent himself from being buried alive."
