In a modern update on the urban tradition of extravagant seasonal shop-window decorations, Phantom Galleries' Long Beach phalanx offers nearly 30 light-based art installations in 25 locations. All the work is visible from the street 24/7, but optimal viewing time is at night, when the work really comes alive. The central arts and shopping district of downtown Long Beach keeps the pieces up through the new year, with a loosely organized walking tour reception on Saturday, December 19, providing last-minute shopping opportunities alongside the public culture.
