Skirball Cultural Center says…

Jerry Robinson, cartoonist and creator of Batman's iconic villain, the Joker, guest curated ZAP! POW! BAM! The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938–1950, currently on view at the Skirball Cultural Center. The collection of more than 70 rare comic books, along with artwork, movie serials, and interactive displays, focuses on the emergence of the superhero in American pop culture in the years before and after WWII — when escapist entertainment was at an all-time high. The comprehensive display also includes a companion exhibit, Lights, Camera, Action: Comic Book Heroes of Film and Television, appealing to comic-book fans, history buffs, and film enthusiasts alike.
