The Claremont Museum of Art makes no secret of its mission: the preservation, study, and dissemination of the legacy left by the generations of visual artists associated with the town's rich art-school heritage. The first major survey of the work of James Hueter, a painter active in the community ever since his education in the years following WWII, makes for the perfect CMA experience. The evolution of Hueter's elegant ideas and visual style traces an arc through influences from cubism to surrealism, abstraction to narrative symbolism, and through experiments in an array of mediums. As evidenced by the most recent work included, the man is still at the top of his game.
