Billy Wilder Theater, Hammer Museum says…

UCLA's Film Archives, REDCAT, and the Los Angeles Filmforum join forces for a two-day, two-venue program honoring the experimental films of one of the 20th century's most influential artists. A member of the Bay Area Beat scene, the late Bruce Conner was a trained artist who worked with all media to create politically charged assemblages. He eventually created over two dozen non-narrative films from cast-off B-movie footage and scavenged newsreels, collaborating on works with Devo, Brian Eno, and David Byrne. Tonight, Dennis Hopper appears in person to introduce a selection of works from Conner's 50-year film career, including the seminal 12-minute work A MOVIE (1958), which was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress.
