In the best TMI tradition of soul-assaulting autobiography, author and illustrator Cristy C. Road details (mostly) her own misspent youth, with the gusto of a latter-day Lydia Lunch and the melodramatic optimism of Jim Carroll's Basketball Diaries. Road's knack for viscerally evocative description — the same sense for detail that informs her visual art — lends the story a certain gothic-fable temperament, striking a tone of bemused horror and dark nostalgia as it plows with unrelenting honesty through the sewer of an out-of-control, punk-loving junkie's life in the big city.
