Ruth Weisberg is hailed in some quarters as a living legend of contemporary figurative painting. Her delicate, yet dense depictions of subjects as far-ranging as women in luminous pools of water and the multivalent, alternately tragic and triumphant history of the Jewish people have toured the globe. But on March 25, her latest exhibition, at the erudite Jack Rutberg Gallery, plays perhaps its most interesting role to date: as the setting for an evening of performance, conversation, and spoken word from members of the theatre of NOTE, and a living legend from another world: mistress of macabre sexuality and cult-film icon Karen Black.
