Multimedia artists Meeson Pae Yang and Steven Burtch discuss their contributions to joint show Refraction, tonight, providing insight into the confluences and contradictions between their individual visions. Yang's multimedia sculptural installations mimic natural forms and processes, playing off the juxtaposition of organic structures with artificial materials and technology. Her complex sculptural works surprise and delight, even as they forge metaphorical commentary on the physical world and man's destructive dominion over it. By contrast, Burtch's paintings and drawings, while also working directly with the properties of light and reflection, are impossibly delicate, nuanced affairs, whose fine, almost maddening subtlety belies the controlled chaos of their making.
