Brooklyn outfit Asobi Seksu's third album, Hush, sees the band branching out from its shoegaze roots to emit wholly crafted dream pop soundscapes. Their name derives from a Japanese slang term for "playful sex," and it's no wonder. Frontwoman Yuki Chikudate’s sugary-yet-melancholic vocals shine on tracks like "Me & Mary" and "Gliss," oscillating between childlike innocence and a sense of all-knowing femininity that holds up just fine against guitarist James Hanna's powerful lo-fi chords. Tonight they're joined by tour mates/fellow Brooklynites Bell, whose Björkian lead singer Olga Bell is a master of playful handclaps and blippy, chirping samples.
