On March 30, 1958, Alvin Ailey and a group of young black modern dancers performed at New York's 92nd Street YM-YWHA, launching a paradigm shift in dance that lives on vibrantly to this day under the artistic direction of Judith Jamison. The company's 50th Anniversary tour is armed with a repertory of seven works spanning four separate programs, ranging from Blues Suite — the work that marked the launch of AADT — to Go in Grace, the newest piece set to a composition by Sweet Honey in the Rock (who also appear live on opening night). And, as always, no Ailey concert is complete without a closing performance of the iconic masterpiece Revelations.
