For a Chung King Road gallery showing, the idea of an exhibition celebrating the Chinese New Year might not be that odd. But the new two-person exhibition Hampah (Farsi for "two walkers sharing a path") instead commemorates the Persian New Year. A collaborative undertaking between Bay Area artists Ala Ebtekar and Taravat Talepasand, both Iranian-Americans, the show finds the two pursuing its thread in diverse ways. Ebtekar's work draws on and merges paradigms of urban street art, political events, and decorative tradition; Talepasand, on the other hand, uses more confrontational, narrative imagery to directly challenge the intransigent taboos and prejudices that endure in society.
