In conjunction with Command Performance, the Downtown Central Library exhibits Paul Outerbridge: New Color Photographs from Mexico and California, 1948–1955, on view through June 28.
Over 100 prints by prolific New York photographer Paul Outerbridge (1896-1958) are on view at the Getty Center through August 9. The photography pioneer worked primarily in fashion and advertising, but his distinctive vision, range of subjects, and tireless experiments in color (including the painstaking 90-step carbro process) helped elevate him to the status of fine artist. Works by Richard C. Miller examine the steps involved in the protracted carbro process, while contemporary LA photographer Jo Ann Callis delivers rich, artfully staged images that further challenge the technical limitations of manual photography.
